Who I am

I have been singing in choirs since before I was 7 years old. In my teen years I worked up guitar and banjo skills, and started writing songs at about age 20. I was a full time busker in Vancouver for a full year in 1976, and sang traditional songs with autoharp in the Kingston farmer’s market for the following 20 years. I recorded five albums of adult material and three of children’s material over the 80’s. Did a 40 appearance 10 province solo tour in 1992, then transitioned to choirs in 2000. In March 2026 I will release my sixth album of adult contemporary folk, Living This Day. I will likely put together an album of choir songs I have written before the end of 2027. My solo performing is now mostly for house concerts: great events for warm connections and singing with others. I happen to be a clinical psychologist, too - - - that is reflected in my writing, I think. I always try to remember to tell my audiences that I’m a lyrics guy.

My usual practices in house concerts: 8 to 20 in the audience, 10 or 12 songs, light refreshments and conversation after the concert (usually a bit over an hour), and a donation jar or hat, with proceeds going to Martha’s Table or another food bank.

My albums from the 80’s are available on Apple Music, Spotify, and all of the other platforms.

Living This Day was released on March 6, 2026. The album, or individual songs are available at :

My five favourite titles from my early writing are:

Ellie’s Lullaby, Nurture the Spark, Pastorale, I’m Leaving You, and Come to Me for Comfort. Await the Time and Lucky Be We are right up there, too. I will be arranging the latter two for choirs some time soon.
